Tom Quackenbush Update

The following is an update on Tom Quackenbush from his wife, Maureen as of September 16.

“Physical Therapy was in and got him up and walking a short distance with a walker. He’s still lightheaded and dizzy when he first sits or stands, but that is to be expected between the concussion and the pain medications. His pain from his fractures is mostly controlled, except when he coughs, which causes pretty intense chest pain.

“He will be wearing a hard cervical collar for three months to allow his neck fractures to heal. The thoracic fractures should heal on their own. Other than the lightheadedness when he first gets up, the remainder of his concussion symptoms seem to have resolved.

“Cardiology is confident they have solved the issue, and they have cleared him for discharge. It is just a matter of keeping his pain under control and getting him back up and walking safely. If all keeps going well, they are thinking he will be ready for discharge in two or three days.

“To all of you who jumped in immediately, I cannot begin to thank you enough. Denise Feldman, Rodney Hicks, Josh Greer, Steven Yoder, Jodi Bertagnolli, we know things would have been very different if you had not been there, and we are forever grateful to you for saving his life. We are also extremely grateful to everyone for all of your prayers and positive thoughts. The prayers are what pulled him through. Please keep the prayers coming as he recovers. He still has a long way to go.”
